When I start my 83 500 SEL (Euro) the speedometer goes to 40 MPH and stays there. After I drive for @ 15 minutes, the speedometer will drop to 20 MPH and eventually 0 when at a stop sign. Then it will function normally.

Any idea what this may be?

The odometer works normally.
