Hi,
Recently my dashboard lights went out. The warning lights all still work, but the light that lights the entire dash is out. Does anyone know if this might be just a fuse, or how I should go about fixing this? I have a 1993 400E. Any ideas or guesses would be very appreciated. Thanks.

If the lights on your heater controls and gear indicator are also out it's possible you have accidentally turned down the dimmer switch ;there are 2 black knobs which protrude from the instrument panel ,one resets the trip meter ,the other controls the instrument lighting dimmer; can never remember which is which ; turn clockwise to increase lighting.

This actually was not the problem, although it did make plenty of sense. Is there a fuse that can be replaced? I also wanted to add another question to this post in hopes of unlocking some clues. My headlights/brakelights/running lights all seem to go out really frequently. It seems like by the time I am finished changing a light out, a different will go out shortly after that. Does this happen to anyone else or does anyone have experience with this? Right now my front headlight, front fog light, and front other light (running?), as well as my rear brake light, all on the right side of the car are out. I just wanted to look into this before changing all of those bulbs. It seems like they all went out at once and I wanted to ask about it. Thanks.

Check your alternator output---voltage should be no more than approx. 14V. Mark

How do you do this? Are there steps anywhere on the site?

Hints to having an overcharging battery are: excessive water usage, and, especially right after you turn off the engine, you can hear the battery fizzing (like a coke can after you open it).

Put a volt meter on the battery while it's running - If you are getting something really high, then you know your answer right off the bat.

Does anyone know if the fans that cool the engine are powered by the battery? I've noticed my 2 fans up in the grill are out, and thought it might be inter-connected.
