W202 1997 C230 - How To Unhook Low Beam Clamping Ring?

W202 1997 C230 - How To Unhook Low Beam Clamping Ring?

I feel like an idiot. Can someone help me out?

I got the cover off and removed the electrical connector, but I can't figure out how to unhook the clamping ring that holds the bulb in the cutouts of the bulb socket. How do I get that bloody clamp off???

Yes that durn wire spring thing.

Looks like it there's a hindge on the bottom. Both sides have a butterfly looking shape that hold the acutal bulb. The top looks like it unhooks, but for the life of me, I can't get it to unhook.

It has been a while since I did it, but basically you just push it in to get it out of its little holder slot, kind of like a safety pin...

Don't try it in the dark though!! It is a little tricky but I don't recall it being a problem.

Tricky little bugger. It's not very intuitive and difficult to see, but I got it to open. You push the top of the clamp toward the center of the car and both sides of the top of the clamp unhook. This allows access to the bulb. $7.00 at the dealer's parts dept. Thanks Mike for the inspiration.
