560SEL Check engine light

I have a 1989 560SEL and the check engine light came on. It stays on all the time regardless of engine temperature. No other symptoms and all runs well. Any ideas? Thanks.

There is no check engine light in the 560SEL 1989. If so, where is it located?!!!

It's on the instrument cluster. That row of warning/status lights. Turn key to position 2 and they all light.

I checked the 02 sensor and I believe it is ok. It checks at around 6 ohms. The car runs fine and is getting normal gas mileage.

I disconnected the battery and re-connected. Afterward the check engine light did not come on and has not since. I accidently disconnected a vacuum line on a valve the is connected to the exhaust manifold several years ago and the check engine light came on. Perhaps this valve is getting old and may be failing.

I have to say, reading all of your replies; You all need to find a good reliable Mercedes Shop. Have the codes read by someone who knows what they are doing. I would not recommend just driving it with the light on. Is it a CA car, grey market, Federal?
