Unhappy Key fob stuck in ignition slot c230 K

Help! I took a short trip in my 2000 c230 Kompressor and killed the engine when I parked. I wanted to listen to the radio, so I turned the key to what I thought was the accessory position. After a few minutes, I tried to turn the key off and it wouldn't turn to the left and I couldn't remove it from the dash. I was able to remove the actual metal key from the key fob but cannot remove the fob. I am also unable to lock the drivers door as the key sensor registers that I have left the key in the car. Oddly, the keyfob seems to be sufficient to start the car so fortunately I will be able to drive it to the dealer soon, but was wondering what I could do in the meantime to remove the key and/or lock the car. Thanks!

KEY removal is dependant on the trans shifter reporting back that it is in PARK. Move the shifter back & forth FIRMLY and then see if there is any change.
