Version Coding shift module for W220
Hello,
Can any of the Mercedes techs out there please tell me if a new shift module on a 2000 W220 would need to be version coded once installed or if it will work right out of the box? Thanks! brian |

The 220 shifter is part of the Drive Authorization System(DAS). It's shipped with electronic transport protection that must be de-activated before it will work. It may sound like overkill on the part of MB, but you have to remember that the 220 doesn't have a steering column lock, so the extra anti-theft measures are necessary.

ILUVMILS,
Thanks for the response. Looks like this will not be a plug and play job. Thanks again, Brian |

Man this sucks!!
I found a new shift module on ebay for $270. However, I called my dealer and of course they will not install any parts they have not sold. Do any of the independents have the equipment necessary to de-activate the electronic transport protection or am I totally screwed here? Dealer wants $650 for the module, $150 for diagnosis and who knows how much for installation. This is totally insane. Thanks |
