Heat sensing system - 420SEL
I have a minor problem on my 420SEL; need help with ID of the parts/connection involved. There is a small metal stud right above my thermostat area that sticks up and a black plastic fitting with a metal part inside that goes down over the engine stud. There is a wire sticking into the plastic fitting, but I don't know what the actual connection is supposed to be. My engine temp is not registering at the dash and I want to get whatever part(s) required to read and transmit the engine temp correctly .... can someone help me with this?? Thanks, Ben Carter

420SEL Heat Sensor fixed
Amazingly, the heat sensor works by just being inserted into the black plastic cap over the engine stud. The wire has an unusual green covering which I guess somehow reacts to the temp at the stud point and transmits it to the dash gauge! I pulled out the wire, bent it double and just put it back in the hole in the plastic cap on the engine. The dash gauge then reported the temp at normal levels, which I feel is correct based on engine performance, etc etc. The easiest fix I ever made, especially without understanding exactly how the dang thing actually works!!
