1990 E300 A/C stops working when hot

[B]My 90 E300 A/C compressor stops working if it hot soaks or weather is hot, I have replaced the controller module under the hood, system has a full charge and when I do get it to come on it is cold. Any help would be great, it is turning into a money pit, and I DON'T WANT TO TROW ANY MORE PARTS AT IT! Could the cluch field coil be defective? Thx
