Suddenly no fan on my '87 560SEL, all pushbuttons dead, checked fuse, O.K. anything else easy and simple to check before fan check and push button unit removal. I'd like to keep it simple.

There is a separate 30 amp strip fuse in a cute little black housing outside and forward of the main fuse box. I would start there. May look OK, but if corroded or discolored, probably blown. Requires a phillips screwdriver to remove. Part available here, dirt cheap.
30 Amp Strip Fuse Bosch $0.58 BTW, check the fuse for the climate control system as well. Good luck
