Hey Folks,

How long is the electric pump that seems to move coolant in the 2000 ML V8 supposed to run, it runs after the engine is turned off and the key removed. This darn thing runs for a long while even when the engine's cold (started for 2min)and might have run my battery dead the other day.
I called the dealer and spoke to two service advisors who didn't even know there was any kind of coolant circulation after the key was turned off. I guess my question is really is this pump supposed to run only when the engine is hot and would what I describe be a "dealer item" for repair? Is there a way to bypass it or adjust it's run time? Thanks in advance for your advice!

ML Dude,
Sorry, I can't help you with your question, but two things:
My friend has a 1999 ML430 with the Skyview and it is the neatest sunroof. I LOVE it, how do you like yours??
Also, are you from Tustin, Orange County, CA?

Should run for 10 minutes after shut down, shouldn't be noisy!! ALL ML's have this feature to keep the all aluminum block at an even temperature.

Hello David, Yes I live in O.C. and love the power roof. It's the distinguishing feature of the ML line from other SUV's. When I first saw it I was deliberating between a couple of cars, the skyview was the tie breaker!
Hey MB Doc, thanks for the answer. It's not really noisy but I can hear it when I park in the garage and what makes me curious is that it runs sometimes even when the engine is started for a minute or less. What do you think about that??

That is correct, earlier cars used a temp switch that only turned pump on for cool down. The ML allows for even temps durning warm up & cool down.

I'm not a big coffee drinker, but always end up going. And when I/we go, I always go to Starbucks. But I like Diedrich MUCH more!! The closest one is in Laguna Beach though, or over by the airport.
