identifing my model

I have a 1985 380SE and would like to know what chassis and engine codes fit my model. Is it a w126, and if so what model engine.Thanks for help.

the chasis is a W126, the engine a M116.

To be exact, you have a 126.032 chassis with a 116.963 engine.
Write that down for parts and tech service data inquiries.

Is there a reason for the second part of these chassis and engine numbers? Do they indicate what series of the 126 chassis ect? Thanks for your input.

Yes , that is basically what they do.
The first 3 are chassis and the next 3 are model...so, a a parts guy or tech can tell all about your car with the inclusion of the secound set of numbers
Just telling me you have a 126 chassis means nothing if I have to go to a schematic ,etc...
The remainder of the numbers tell us if the car is LHD/RHD and if it is auto-matic or stick.. ..and the final #s in the series are the serial #, which parts guys use b/c of part upgrades, changes within a series/vintage, etc..
