w124 94 e320 ASR
I've been reading the posts regarding ASR, and have printed & read CD Brakes 42-8000. However, I'd appreciate a few tips regarding what to check before I take it to someone for diagnosis. Unfortunatly, I haven't found anyone local who I can really depend on for accurate diagnosis. You listers are still the best!
ASR lights up intermittantly. Hot or cold engine, regardless of weather temps & humidity. If "ON" at start up, it stays on during entire drive time and "Snow Chain" switch doesn't illuminate. If "OFF" at start up, it doesn't illuminate during drive time. Cruise Control and everything else appears to be functioning correctly. Codes Base and Pin 8 are OK, but Pin 14 shows #3 EA/CC/ISC actuator #14 Closed throttle position contact switch MB's recent "relevant" history @ 141,000 mi Main harness replaced before I bought car @ 99,000 mi. I rewired B Harness. New rotors & pads @ 126,000 mi from MercedesShop. All wearing evenly with a lot of pad still available. Rebuilt throttle body and Control Module = runs pretty good. Hand sanded rear rotors after brake pad caused rusting while car sat for 1 month = no more throbbing during braking. NOTE ASR light was starting to illuminate intermittantly before brake rotor cleaning. Brake fluid has probably never been replaced. Now's the time for me to learn how to use the Motive Bleeder I have. Can I use any DOT 4, or must it be MB's brake fluid? How much do I need to do entire system? Bob PS About 2 weeks ago, all the brake warning lightes on my Merkur Scorpio (German Ford w Teves (ATE) ABS System) @ 180,000 mi started lighting up. Do German cars talk to each other? Are they jealous for my attention? |

IF you ONLY get the ASR lamp & not the ABS as well then the throttle actuator is STILL the most likely problem & the codes also are verifying that problem.

Hi Doc
THANKS to you and others who recently helped me with "throttle actuator" aka "body" and control module I was able to R&R them June 2nd. Re thread http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=147929&highlight=throttle+actuator Other than a little twisting to get throttle body in between intake 3 & 4, installation was easy. Connecting rod (turnbuckle style adjuster) had enough corrosion to maintain position, so I just used as is. But questions are... Would the car still run as well as it does, if I hadn't installed it properly, (gasket, hoses, tourking bolts)? Assuming 4Mercedes did a good job on the reman and I installed it correctly, what next to check? Bob PS Have a good July 4th holiday... |
