transmission speacialists help!

Hi guys,
I have this weird problem. All my MBs had issues with transmissions.
Car is 1992 500sel. It shift hard from 2nd to 3rd and smooth at 3rd to 4th shift. Also B to 2nd shift is as hard as 2nd to 3rd. When you put it in D there is a jerk forward eventhough car idles at 550rpm. Reverse is smooth. There is a little slip in winter at 3rd to 4th shift when it isreally cold outside. Man, it's driving me nuts because previous owner had transmission rebuilt 2 years ago. Car has 157k on it. Also there is some sort of howling sound which gets a little quiter once car is warm. Torque converter?
What should I do? Another rebuild would be nice but $$$. Can it be something wrong with valve body, damping circuits?
Please if someone had same issues or have an idea what can be wrong with it let me know.

Regards,

Victor
