rough idle

I am looking at buying an 85 500 sec and it idles rough. any thoughts?

It could be a million things - do a search. Providing more background info would be good too. On the W126, common causes of rough idle are dirty ICV, faulty ICM, leaky cold start injector, vacuum leak, worn secondary ignition components, faulty O2 sensor, etc. etc. Again, do a search.

21 years old car.

You're going to need strong mechanical skills and a good size purse or a HUGE purse.

Not saying this is a bad model. Just saying that any 21 year old car is going to need a lot of work and that's most likely why it's available for sale.
