1990 300E Shifting problem

Hi,

I just joined MercedesShop.com. I have a 1990 300E.

Mine is real clean and I am just getting to understand her...first MB for me.

The one thing that has left me baffled is when accelerating, a bit hard, at 60 mph it shifts with a BANG, sounds like a hammer! then she FLYS! I believe its a downshift.

I heard there is a linkage from the throttle to trans that needs adjustment. Can anyone please shed some light on this one.

When I got this car I changed all fluids and filters, (trans too) oil pressure sending unit and more.

Thanks in advance,

Michael (ninety300E)

There are two adjustments for the trans, throttle pressure and modulator. These two adjustments affect all the gears somewhat equally. If you have just one gearshift that is either too soft or too hard adjustments typically won't correct it. Usually then a rebuild is impending although sometimes an inspection of the valve body will reveal probelms. You need to have a really good MB transmission tech to evaluate it.
