R-134A Conversion

Has anyone recently converted their A/C system from R-12 To R-134A? If so, what were your procedures and how are the results?

Thanks

Try a search, which should reveal hundreds of threads on this. Be sure to read those posts which attempt to convince you to stick with R12. It may be the best course.

my 190 is r12....i believe it needs a charge and my mb mech doenst do r12 anymore so i am going to take it to my non-mb mech and have him check it out. it might be cheaper to find someplace that can just charge it if thats what it needs...if its leaking then converstion might be cheaper. my mb mech quoted me 300 to convert it to r134a.

Cheap conversion....threaded on 134a nipples onto r12 nipples.
Drew vac on system. Filled w/ 134a & oil mix sold at wallmart. Cold and running well so far (2yrs) in a 78 bmw...cost less than $50.00
My MB came converted...nice and cold so far.

YMMV!

Thanks, andmoon

Sounds easy enough. You didn't replace any O-rings or the dryer/receiver?

Thanks,

Dave

Napa

NAPA sells a kit for less than $50 that has a conditioner in the kit that eliminates need to replace o-rings or oil. Just bleed old systemvacuum and add included fittings, 134A and conditioner. Put it in my buick 3 months ago and holding up fine. Don't like the way the 134a performs at idle but I hear thats normal for 134A.
