How to fix a creaky door and windshield wiper?
1) On my W124, I have a creaking driver's door. I put my finger on both hinges while closing and they don't have vibration in it. I put my finger on the flat piece of metal in the center, and that does creak. How do I fix that? If I had Xray vision, I could see what's on the inside of the door to see what's causing trouble. I don't want to just shoot oil in there without seeing where it's going.
2) My monowiper blade squeals even in the rain, seems to be coming from the top of the blade, which is pretty new. What would cause this, and how to remedy? Thanks , jeff 1991 300d, 90k |

For #1, you can spray a small bit of lithium grease into the opening. Don't go overboard with the stuff. However, on my car, the bolts to this part were compromised, and I fixed it when I had the panel off.

For #1, you can replace the flat piece called a DOOR CHECK. They get worn out over time or you can try greasing which helps sometimes.
For #2, your wiper may squeel if the glass is getting old and has lots of micro chips on it. They blade can't make good contact with the glass and skips then. You can try polishing your glass. You can try http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=11074 |

Replace the door check. You will have to pull off the door cover. What squeaks are 2 spring loaded spheres that hold the door open at certain spots. Grease will not get in there. Checks are $20-25.

Search "door check strap". It's a common problem. Much has been written about it.
