I don't think Special Edition models came in black.

Do you have zebrano or burl wood?

Zebrano, Polished 8-hole Alloys.

True Special Editions are supposed to have Burlwood, 6-hole wheels, and improved stereos. In another thread, someone stated that Carfax or some other entity referred to all 1995 E320's as "Special Edition" which is why so many of them, including mine apparently, are called that.

Someone also told me that the late-95 versions like mine, with the 1996 E320 engine, trans, and mechanicals, are also referred to as Special Editions, perhaps more deservedly so than for trim alone.

Did you ever get the car d.delano? I had a dark green one (95 E320) I sold to stefanoII a few years ago and I think he has racked up close to 200k miles on it since then. In addition, I think he made mention of selling it here not too long ago. Anyway, the older I get the more I like my '83 240D.

Furthermore I'd prefer the twin cam car over the single.
I'm the other way around because I like things simple. I will say that the '95 E320 got good fuel mileage if you took it easy on the gas pedal. I seem to remember it getting between 27 and 28 mpg highway. Have you considered a 1995 E300?

Here's a pic of a 95 E320 I picked up recently in Baltimore. No rust and in my favorite color. Had 88,000 miles and I picked it up for $9750. Matches my SL600.

You got an E320 cab for $10k! If its in good shape you did well. A German car dealer I know just sold a 67k mile mint one owner example for low 20's.

I feel I did very good on it. Runs great with no major problems. Has a "key" scratch on the trunk and a couple of small rock chips on the front. Local reputable paint shop is going to touch up the paint for around $900. I looked for a while for one like this.

Everything from 1993 to 1995 had the same drive train as the 96. You don't have a Special Edition. It's a very specific package of optional equipment on some but not all 1995s.

The 1995 and 1996 share the same engine and transmission, and, according to my mechanic -- who implored me to get only a late 1995 -- certain mechanical upgrades. Early/Pre-95 124s evidently do not.

One example of upgrades/differences is the air filter. The one for the late 1995 E320 is the same as that for the 1996 (which it should be, since it is the same engine), and is much bigger than the filter for the earlier 1995's. I learned this when I purchased the "wrong," smaller filter yesterday and had to return it for the correct one. The parts guy pointed out that the late 95 and 96 E320s use the same filter.

My car has all of the special edition options -- telecoping steering wheel, steel door sills, memory seats, ASR, etc. -- except for zebrano and 6-hole wheels. It is understandable, and forgiveable, that it would be (mis)labeled "Special."

Repeating once again - the 93, 94, 95 and 96 share the same drive train - 3.2 liter 104 motor and 722.3xx four speed transmission. The drivetrain was not "upgraded" in 95 - it was "upgraded" in 93. It was carried over into 96 in 210 body, the 104 motor was carried over into 97 but with the 722.6 transmission. Air filter, if actually different, is not a major drivetrain enhancement.

ASR is not part of the SE package. If it has non-metallic paint, zebrano wood, and eight hole wheels it is not a Special Edition. Whether it's understandable or forgiveable to call it a Special Edition, it is an ERROR. It is a common error for the simple reason that CarFax has mistakenly labeled all 95s as SEs. Being mislabeled by a CarFax screwup is actually what makes your car special.

Do a search on 1995 vs 1996 in ShopForum and see what you find, regarding the differences/similarities between the 1995 and 1996 E320s, and earlier W124s. (I noticed you ignored the air filter difference.)

What is "special" at this point is your deep, hair-splitting concern with my car's marketing nomenclature, and your determination to prove it is mechanically identical to every W124 from 1993. Perhaps you felt I was bragging when I made my remarks, and want to knock me down a peg or two -- despite my stating from the get-go that I see no reason for the car to be called "special".

Whatever your motivation, my remarks about the mechanicals, and the concurring facts available in ShopForum threads, are true. And I will most likely remain among the poor, dumb hordes calling his/her 95E320 a "Special Edition", just for the fun of setting off people who do not want it to be.

Buy the car. Enjoy it. I had a 1994 E320 for three years. Exterior was pearl black w/ two tone grey interior. These cars are in high demand in California. Know this. Put it on AutoTrader for the California market. You will get what you paid for it if not more. I traded mine in on a 2002 Jeep Cherokee Overland. Didn't work for me like I thought it would. Kept the Jeep 11 months all the while missing the Benz. Decided to trade up to a 126 with a unique find in Seattle with tons of receipts. Flew up and drove it the 700 miles home. Didn't have a CD changer in the trunk though. I found one on EBay for a couple of hundred.
Enjoy!
