Timing Chain / Guides

Well today I tackled this job... What a PITA.
I had 12' of stretch before, now i'm looking at around 2'.
Threading the new chain on was a piece of cake, but doing the upper guide rails was tricky to say the least.
People recommend to have a helper to do the chain, I can imagine they would have only gotten in the way. Its an easy 1 man job. Taking the plugs out, air filter housing and valve cover off probably took more time than doing the actual chain.
While I was in there I did the oil feed tube plastics too. They were all still in one piece, but were pretty loose fitting on the tube.
I havent finished completely yet, still need to throw on the valve covers, PS pump and air filter. It started to rain, so I had to pack up!

Regards

Hopefully you found my DIY useful! Yes, I also found it to be an easy job with no help required - took me 1 hour and 15 minutes, including the time to take the pictures and write down notes to do the DIY article (but not including time to do the rails, as mine were the old-style aluminum-backed ones with very low wear). The hardest part, for me, was the removal of the fan to access the crank bolt!

Your article was helpful, I read it beforehand, and printed it out, but didn't need to look at it again. It really is a straightforward job. Anybody who needs a new chain, go ahead and do it, it really is that easy!
I only used two pairs of vice grips as well. I held the chain tight to to the sprocket with my hand when moving the grips around 90'
My guides looked alright, One had slight wear. They weren't the originals though, they were stamped 1988. Also the chain I took off already had a split type link, so I dont think that was original either. My mileage is currently 138k.
My fan was pretty easy to get off, I've had it off a couple of times recently. Once when changing the radiator, and once when doing the water pump.
