keroscene?

has anyone heard this before: after you drain the oil out of the crankcase, put on a new filter and fill er up with keroscene..run for 30-40second...drain..replace filter and fill with normal oil? I'm told the keroscene will clean out the sludge however Im told this was done back in the 60s. I dont know what affect it will have on our mb engines? anyone care to chime in?

Kris

i apologise for the misspelling in the title...im not very awake. sorry

kerosene flush

I have heard of using kerosene to flush heavily sludged deposits in farm equipment. Drain the oil, top off with kerosene, run for a few minutes and drain. Not sure if this practice would be appropriate for newer engines.
There are modern flushing systems like Bilstein which pumps heated cleaning fluid through the engine. Amsoil can be used to flush heavily sludged engines.

Hi Kris,

I remember back in 1967 my dad putting kerosene in a Ford Falcon 6 cyl. to clean it out, but I would advise against doing it to your car. It could create more problems than you currently have.

The best way to resolve your tapping noise is to replace the lifters, if that is why you are asking.

Good Luck,

Dave

Diesel fuel might be better, its a little thicker, and cheeper.

I'd be worried about loosening a chunk of something and getting a "stroke".

I heard it's not good to run pure kerosene - no lubricating properties. You've gotta have oil in the kerosene.

I did it once by adding a quart just before an oil change when the engine was a quart low. The idle went up, and I just didn't feel right about it. Didn't do it again.

Lots of detergent in ATF

Just the normal spillage in a flush stripped my hands of the natural oils - hands were chapped for a couple of days.

Diesel is similar.

I've heard that ATF will take care of noisy lifters, but never tried it. Yeah, I remember that Lava was a "real man's" soap.
Must be an old group posting here.

run diesel oil in there and change it often is a Safe way to go.

On a Horribly cooked/caked M110 I used a quart of risolene added to the oil for a couple hundred miles...The difference was tangible. Much cleaner top end and I'm wagering the bottom end was looking better as well.

Car is still running some 90K (over 300 on the clock) later so I don't think it could have been All bad!
