1998 E320 Transmission Failure
I slowed to a stop after car just completing 300 mile trip. With foot on brake moved shifter to reverse. I tried backing up but no action. Then let rev's drop to idle & put in drive. I moved fwd slowing with a clanking sound from trans. I stopped car after driving slowly about 50'. Can anyone pinpoint the problem? Car has 88,000 miles & hasn't dropped drop of tranny fluid.

Sorry to hear about your problem.
I take it that your transmission has never been serviced, fluid and filter. May not be related to your transmission failure, but after you have it rebuilt or replaced, you should plan on ignoring MB lifetime fluid advice. Have the transmission serviced every 30,000 miles just to be cautious. Who nows maybe it will be something simple. Steve |
