W124 Washers not washing

Hi,

The patient is a 92 400E.

I realized that my windshield washer (sprayer) is not working. I ordered a new pump and just received it. While looking at it, I realized that there are two pumps in the car, one for the headlights and one for the windshield. Then I noticed after testing that NEITHER set of sprayers works. (windshield or headlight).

Now I'm thinking the pumps are probably (possibly) OK but something else is not good. Is there a common thing that usually fails with the above result? Wiring harness itself seems fine, not deteriorated. I'm not the greatest with electrical, do not own a multimeter etc. Mechanically I am adept, however.

Thanks,
Jim

I just discovered the same thing on my E420 yesterday! Neither pump appears to be pumping.
What are the odds of both breaking? I haven't fiddled with it yet, and won't be able to until late Sunday.
I will be watching this thread to see what others have to say. (I hope it's not a problem with the stalk)

Walter,

Do your backup lights work? Mine do not.

Now I don't know what to think.

Anybody have any ideas??

I would pull out the washer bottle ! very easy ! just be carefull with the tubes that go to the pumps! After I got the bottle out I took my air nozzle and gently blew some air in the tube till I could hear it coming out the spray nozzles! Upon inspection of the pumps using a 12v power source I found that the pump for the windshield was bad but the one for the headlite washers !BTW anybody ever use them?? it was like brand new ! I suppose cuz it never was used! and guess what it is the same pump! i switched them around and bingo the windshield gets a good spraying! You can most likely find one in the boneyard pretty cheap!

Does anybody know if the back-up lights and washer pumps are on the same circuit for sure?

If both (or just one) back-up light(s) was/is broken, wouldn't the lamp-out light light up?

bump

I haven't had the chance to test the pumps by supplying 12v from another source. I just don't want to believe that both pumps are bad, and that the back-up lights are bad all at the same time.

(so I bumped this thread in hopes someone knows something - thanks)
