If the delay you describe is the engine not revving rather than the transmission slipping it may due to the oxygen sensor. The oxygen sensor should be changed every 60,000 miles. Changing the ozygen sensor on our 1991 300CE dramatically improved acceleration from a stop and eliminated the sluggishness.
