HELP!!! 1987 420SEL won't start
I have an '87 420 SEL that will is not starting. The problem began when I replaced the rubber bushing on the shift leakage. The reason for repalacing the bushing was because I would have to move the shifter to and from Park/Drive in order to start the car. Immediately following the replacement everything seem to be working fine! It will start as it should when the shifter was in the PARK position. Unfortunately, after just a couple of days the car began doing the same thing. I will then move the shifter from Park to Drive and back and the car will start. However, now no matter what I do it just will not start! What do I to get the car started?

no start
did you remove the arm off the trans to replace the bushing? if so you may have missed lining up the little tab on the neutral safety switch with the hole in the arm.let me know. david poole dallas tx.

Would you happen to have a diagram showing this tab? If not, where exactly is it? Is it on the link or tranny side?

420sel
the tab is part of the neutral safety switch and is on the top of the little arm that moves on the switch.the arm on the side of the trans that you remove to fit a new bushing to has a slot on the side that faces the trans so that the tab can fit in.this synchronises the shift lever and the neutral safety switch.david poole dallas tx.
