97' E420, 102K, Engine Electronic message

My wife started the car and it idled rough and sounded like it was missing out.
-check engine light on
-engine electronic message
-runs rough until you get up to speed.

Guessing catalytic converter and/or O2 sensor? If not any ideas?

How hard is it to change 02 sensor and if I take it in to dealer about how much is it to change out catalytic converter out here in sunny Las Vegas, NV if that is problem?

Thanks,

Dean

First step is to get the code read using a OBDII scanner and post that data.

Autozone supposedly will do it N/C.

There are a number of things that it can be. Another possibility is an extreme lean running condition due to a faulty air mass meter or a large air leak downstream of the air mass meter. You will have a much better picture of what it is after the codes are pulled.

When was your last tuneup? Might just need wires and plugs. Get the codes read - maybe it is a simple P0300 type misfire code...
