300SL 4 speed Automatic Troubles
Hello all, I'm new here so here comes my frist post!
I have a 1990 SL which just came out of storage, when I put it up for the winter the transmission would not always shift into high gear. But it usually would. Now it won't shift into 4th at all. The fluid is fine and all other aspects seem normal. I looked in the fuse box and checked all the fuses and they are fine. Thank you in advance! Tox! [Edited by Toxicant on 04-10-2001 at 08:26 AM] |

My first guess (never having owned a 190sl) is the various bushings on the shift linkages. They're cheap to buy, a bit of a pain to install, but make all the difference in the world. Also check if the tranny needs gear oil or ATF and make sure the right on is in the box.
However, you'll find lots more 190sl owners on the veterans list (www.mercedes-veterans.com). This group of folk is good, but for the veteran cars, it's hard to beat an on-line group that has people that have owned and/or maintained them since new. -CTH |
