Tranny oil level procedure

Whats the correct procedure for checking the tranny oil?

operating temp on neutral and engine running?

Assuming this is on your 93 300E in your profile, yes you are correct, you can leave it in park though. Assuming also you hadn't just changed the trans oil, if you had you'd want to shift it into all the gears first.

Note that "operating temp" in this case means that the transmission fluid is at operating temp (not just the engine coolant). Takes about 15 miles of driving to get the transmission fluid up to operating temp.

Thanks guys, it's on my 500 sl 1992. the 300e was rear ended.

is it the same procedure?
