Help with next step in 1985 380sl repair...
I have a 1985 380sl with 117k miles. There was gas in the oil and smoke from the tail pipe and obviously a strong smell of fuel when started (after a hard time starting) my "mechanic" thought it was probably the air regulator or fuel pressure regulator. He replaced the L and R fuel pressure regulators, cold start valve and cleaned the injectors. I was moving from WA to CA and he was not able to get an air regulator before I left the state so, I towed it to it's new location. At this point, the car runs rough, rich, stalls after starting and hesitates when you attempt to accelerate then, surges forward and will sometimes stall again and is consuming fuel. I have driven this car approximately 10 miles since the intial repair. Help...I'm not a DYI'er and need some sound advice before I try to locate a Benz repair shop in the SF bay area.

That could be alot of things. #1 on the list is to check the fuel mixture tower to see if the safety ball is still in place. If not I'd suspect some chap was making adjustments they had no real technical background to support doing (in other words someone was screwing with it who is kinda dumb). Probably richened the hell out of it.
Other possiblities, well you want to make sure all 8 plugs are firing, and/or maybe a bad fuel dizzy or a few leaking injectors. Gilly
