500SEL overheated, now starts poor and idles rough

Any idea if "serious" damage was done? There's no water in the oil and vice versa. What else could have happened? With only 122K it's too soon to junk this '84 500SEL.

Hi there,
I would look at the spark plugs first, see how they look. I had a rough idle with misses some time ago and 2 spark plugs fixed it.

How badly "overheated" -- needle into the red zone so you shut it off or you drove it till it stopped and found it had no coolant?
