124 Windshield Replacement Warning!

Or any other Benz with a single windshield wiper.

The warning is: REMOVE THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ASSEMBLY BEFORE HAVING THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED!

I replaced the windshield in my 300E a few years ago by someone who SAID that they had done them before and knew what they were doing. I DO believe that he had done them before, but I DON'T believe that he knew what he was doing. He ended up gluing the windshield to the wiper assembly and I ended up breaking the windshield severely in order to remove the wiper assembly.

I have replaced the 300E now and I am getting it up in shape to either sell or keep as a back up car. I had to destroy the bottom of the windshield to get out the box for greasing. It will only run for a short while before jamming up, so it is not usable on a rainy day as it was..

Now I will have to save some money for a windshield for a car that I no longer drive. I don't want to put the wiper back on until the windshield is in place.

Take this warning seriously. If you let someone glue in a windshield without removing the motor assembly, you will most likely waste the windshield if you ever have to remove the WW assembly.

I have heard a glass man say that he uses a thin sheet of stiff plastic between the WW assy and the new windshield to keep this from happening. After what I have gone through, I would not want to take that chance.

Good luck,
PS, I no longer have an MB on the road, so I guess my posting here will decrease even more. I have enjoyed everyones company over the last five and a half years. Keep in touch. LB.
