I agree, the part that goes into the diff should stay there, you take the 6 bolts off only to remove the half shaft from the car. At any rate, I think you might be able to get by with a 12 point hex socket if they are not too tight (not sure what size, but metric, IIRC maybe a 10mm). I know they are tight, but sometimes a 12 point will do in a pinch. You should be able to find the correct socket without going to a dealer, maybe even Sears, or definitely if you can track down a tool truck (Snap On, Mac, etc) I bet even Harbor Freight has them, but they might make you buy a set of them. If you count the "points" of the bolt head, they might be 10 point in which case it might be harder to find. If they are 12 point then a 12 point hex should work (hex head bolt is 6 point, a 12 point is just a double-hex head). Sometimes you can even get it with a regular 6 point hex.
