Car was left outside for a long time with the sunroof down at the rear - lots of grit and grime in the tracks, so we pulled the entire assembly out of the car (not as hard as one might think - easier since the headliner is toast and it was already out). Anyway - got it all back together and installed - new felt pads to replace those that were missing on the sliders. Trying to figure out all the jibberish on AllData regarding adjusting the sunroof, and I'm getting real close. Push the control button to the rear - roof drops and slides all the way back. Push it to the front, the roof slides forward and pops up - but not "decisively". I've been tweaking the adjuster on the motor to get it to stop at the exact proper forward position - fully up. Right now, it's stopping about 1/16" lower than the roof. Push the control button up - roof pops up a little. I have to press on the panel from below to get it to clear the seal and then it will pop all the way up. I read on AllData about "pre tensioning" the roof panel towards the front of the car after reinstallation, using some sort of custom MB tool. From AllData: "Pretension tilting/sliding roof panel (Fig. 4a) up to markings for mounting brackets with special tool, part number 124 589 00 37 00, tighten nuts and bolts, remove special tool and centering bolt." I'm thinking that the roof is just too tight at the rear of the opening and is binding when I try to pop it up. Anyone with any tips/tricks for finishing this project up? |
