I want to install an alarm in my 1991 300D. I often work 11 hour shifts at one of my jobs, and it makes me a little nervous to leave my car unattended in a parking lot so close to a movie theater for such a long time. I did a search on this site for any pertinent information, but I was unsuccessful.
Would it be feasible to install a factory alarm? Would that option be excessively costly? If so, I would consider installing an aftermarket system. Does anybody have any recommendations? Thanks everybody!

I just got a Python alarm made by DEI. I like it alot. It comes with many different options and if you don't want the installers drilling into your dash to put the LED light, you can have them put this "sticker" on the windshield that flashes a light green when alarm is armed. It senses constant loud sounds and they won't trip the alarm so you can arm it at the airport. Options for it are an attachment the rolls up windows and closes sunroof alog with others.
Mercedes are sort of difficult to install alarms with keyless entry so copy the directions how to from Tech Help above and bring that with you in case they've never installed on a Mercedes before. |

In the Netherlands we install a lot of after market alarm systems in benzes (we have some freaky insurance companies that think that the MB factory alarm is not good enough).
It is not difficult to install an after market alarm system in a W124; it is rather easy as long as the shop knows what it is doing. A nice detail for the alarm would be to replace the driver’s door unlocking pin with the led that comes with the alarm (I had/have that on my car). It looks rather professional as well. 1991 250D...I think that the 91 models were already equipped with the "comfort schaltung" and therefore it should be possible to connect the alarm system to the power windows and roof. greetingz,

Your car should have a factory alarm. Here is a quick way to test it. Roll down your window, then get outside the car and lock the door by the key. Reach in and unlock the door by pulling up on the lock knob. Thenopen the car door. This should pretty much let you know if you have an alarm or not.
