Testing a fan clutch and replacement

How do you test the fan clutch on an S500. It seems to turn very freely and when the engine is cool I would swear it's going slow enough I could stop it, although I haven't tried it. Also I looked at the new parts on line and I can't see how the clutch is attached to the water pump. Doesn't seem to have the 4 holes through it to bolt up. I'm running temps in the low 80s on the road, over 100 in traffic. Thanks

Gary
