testing fan clutch on '84 190e

What is the best way to test my elctromagnetic fan clutch. And where is the switch for it?

fan clutch problem

Ok, I put 12 volts to the connector and the clutch seems to engage, so does that mean it's the sensor or the relay? How do I test either of those?

You can also unplug the sensor and jump the connectors on the plug.

On my 85 190E the switch is located on the front left (driver's) side of the cylinder head. If I remember it is just aft of the thermostat housing. Mine had three connections on the switch but only two wires. The parts man said most have two connections. There is no relay in the circuit. Removeing the connector from the switch and shorting the two wires should engage the clutch and if the motor is running spin the fan.

I just replaced mine a month ago. I'd give you the cost and part number, but my son has the car with all of the receipts in it.

This seems to help on the EM fan... I'll see if this straightens it out on mine.

no. on my customer's 92 2.3L there are two sensors behind the thermostat housing, the front one appears to bring on the aux at low speed, and the rear one brings it on full speed...
I do not think this is correct.
I think the front one is supposed to bring in the main EM fan, and the rear one brings the aux on full speed.
the a/c switch should be the switch that brings on the aux fan on low speed...
yet it does nothing on this 92... I've jumped it, and nothing. the a/c will overheat and dump out the vent on the dryer before the fans ever come on... NOTHING on the a/c system is bringing on the aux or the EM fan...

any help would be appreciated.
THANKS!
