Oil Filter Location of 300E

I'm in the middle of the first Oil Change of my new 300E.

I've drained the pan, and I'm ready to remove the filter.

The filter location isn't evident to me, but no problem, I'll check my CD W124.

Problem. Browser won't load that page.

I have a feeling the filter is hidden above the shroud or pan, but I don't want to remove it if I don't have to.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

If I'd known then what I know now...

Hell, I'd probably still have done it anyways.

Well, good news and bad, for me.

Good news. I found the filter. Bad news. Behind the air cleaner. With no clearance for my handy dandy oil filter wrench.

Gonna have to think about how to proceed.

300E Oil Filter

You might need the type of wrench that fits over the top like a cap. Easy. A few bucks at the auto parts store!

Before you remove the filter....punch a hole in the top. Wait 5 minutes.
This allows the oil to drain out and reduces the oil spilt when unscrewing the filter.

You'll need to remove the air cleaner housing, which is actually part of the filter change procedure. When you put the new filter on, don't over tighten it like they do at the shop. Next time you won't have to take the housing off, you'll be able to remove it by hand. Yet another good reason to do your own oil change.

I didn't have to take out the air cleaner...I guess I missed a step. The oil filter itself unscrewed by hand (previously DIY), so you can try that first.

Attach a filter cup to an extension that will fit your ratchet. Very easy to loosen at that point. Got my filter cup from the dealer, but Snap-On (www.snapon.com) has a pretty good selection.
