Hood pad- Confused about part
Got another one for you guys...
I'm really confused on which Hood pad to get. I am using performance products to purchase my replacement hood pad (the old one is completely rotted away) and I'm confused about which one to order. I found 2 that are for the 1988 300CE. The first says "to VIN# A7902659" and the second is "from VIN# A790260." Does anyone know what the "to" and "from" mean. I have no clue what to put on my 124 chassis car. Also, when pruchasing the hood pad, does it also come with the molding/insulation that is wedged in the crease between the grill and the top of the hood (under the hood and below the Mercedes Emblum). It runs along the crease under the hood and fits on top of the radiator when closed. Just curious. Thanks guys! Cmarison |

Simply look at the VIN on your car to see if the last 6 digits are lower or higher than A790260. Realize that the A series goes to 999999 and then switches to B series ... so you have to check the preceding letter too.

The separate front lateral pad that closes on top of the radiator is a separate part and is very expensive in itself.... Phil can get it, but I think it is $50 or more just for that strip!! BC

Oh my
You know, I did look at the vin# of the car to check the series, but discounted it as a stupid idea. Silly me.
Good to know you can get the other stripping as well. I'll keep it in mind when I'm ready to replace that dryrot as well. Along those same lines, both of my door's weather stripping is deteriorated in just 1 spot on both sides. If you follow the verticle seam up, and around the top for a few inches, there is a spot where it looks like a peice of on both sides is a filler. Hard to explain, but almost like when you install the stripping, both strips meet at this one spot and where the two peices meet (the verticle and horrizontal peice that runs across the top of the door) there is a little pop in peice that meets the gap. Well that has degraded on both sides. I wish I could just replace that one part... but alas, Crown Mercedes told me I had to do the whole peice of door seal! Cmarison |
