Sunroof: Cable Guide Tube (Uh-oh...)
OK, I have the sunroof of the '86 420 SEL apart: the slide on both sides is broken (no surprise) and everything looks good, no rust, and very repairable: buy new parts, clean it up, apply Mercedes-Benz lube paste, etc. Problem: there is a guide tube mounted in the back part of the sunroof frame, with a slit in the top. Mine is bent and twisted. If I cannot straighten it to work OK, is it replacable? is it part of the entire cable tube?

Hi, can you give me a description of your experience? Did you buy a new or used tube?

Did one on an SEC when I worked at a dealer. Motor for the sunroof is in the left side of the trunk. Is a bit of a pain. You want to drop the rear of the headliner, the tube runs up through the rear roof pillar on the left. Take out trunk trim. I don't thing the inner trim on the pillar needed to come off, been awhile so not sure. No problem getting the old one out, main problem is feeding the new one up without hurting it. Was easier to take out the whole motor assembly. Any other questions just ask.
