AC Compressor relay, 85 W126 RHD Euro

You know how they say bad things come in threes?
Well I got a puncture last night that ruined one of my tyres, and this morning It took a hell of a long time to demist my windscreen. It usually takes about 10 seconds because of the AC.

The AC compressor wasn't turning. I've noticed recently that its been cycling on and off quite frequently, and I can hear a relay controlling it around the glove box area. Where exactly is this relay? Is it accessable by pulling the passenger lower dash panel?

What things govern the operation of this relay? Low pressure switch? Low temp switch on evaporator?

It was running great over the weekend, cycling on and off as it should, so I dont think i'm low on R12.

I have the old school rotary control climate control, not the push button.
