hi guys,
Right, the fan definitely kicks in...i can see it spinning very very fast... What i will do is take a picture of the gauges at the temperature that im concerned about and post them here... I know that before my total engine overhaul it used to stay on 80c no matter what...scary thing is now that in traffic it will rise and rise...I know my fan is working, the tstat is new so is the engine temp sensor...what else could it be? Thanks... |

The last 2 posts are INCORRECT! as I posted that engine is designed to run at 100C & should reach 100C any time the car is at or around idle with the A/C system OFF! I have had 4 different 16V cars & they all ran at 100C in the winter, That is the design on that engine!

Perfect! again with A/C off & at idle(around town driving) the engine SHOULD go to 100C & then engage the clutch for the engine fan

Just a little sidenote on this subject.
A hotter engine ( within reason ), is a more efficient engine & also tends to produce less emissions. There is talk in the automotive community about going to operating temperatures of 150 + degrees. At that time, engines will be filled with a Gel cooling media & completely sealed. Gotta get all the materials developed first ( internal engine components ), to handle this kind of heat.

Thanks MB Doc...
I bow to your superior knowledge on this ![]() Just a side note, in severe traffic this evening (I hate London because of this!) the coolant gauge crept over 100c but then went back down again once moving... My question is, is it normal for it to go over 100c like this? Cheers! Zak |
