Put mobil 1 atf H in .. is that bad?

I got some advice from a merc mechanic to use mobil 1 atf at my last filter change.

Was that wrong?

ATF fluid.

There is no problem with different brands as long as the grade of ATF is correct. The models before 96 from memory (can someone confirm) use Dextron II or Dextron III standard ATF.

Settle down.

Dexron II and III or equivalent (such as Mobil 1 ATF) are fine for 722.4 and earlier transmissions. The five+ speed electronic transmissions require MB fluid.

ProV1, it's not stupid of him to ask. He could change the fluid again, if it were wrong for his car.

Synthetic fluids for engine (oil) tranny and rear end are typically better quality and perforn better and longer than dino products. The down side is they are detergent and can disolve years of shellac and deposits and can cause leaks as a result.

Use the search function to get an idea of others experiences. I know that GSXR is using Mobil 1 at 10K oil change intervals and has good oil analysis reports to show that 10K is OK for Mobil 1.

The synthetic tranny fluid is much better than dino and will probably work for at least 30K.
