Hello Everyone. I'm new to your site and started reading back to 1999. So you good people with wisdom are needed, badly. I'm driving down the road 55MPH and hit a very hard bump. This 1992 build dated 6 cyl, 5 speed auto car died. The car coasted about 500 ft. before I could pull over. Car started. Drop into D and died, restart with little backfire and ran through all RPM ranges, idle down drop into drive and drove 200 ft and died. Check engine light on. I disconnected the negative, cleared codes and did not start but did roll over. After I checked out the CIS 5E control with good spare, Fuel pump module, fuel distribution, I couldn't fix. Off to dealer. Diagnosis with their equipment, (I don't have the Bosch unit) they guessed that it might be the Ignition Control Module. They were apparently right as the engine runs fine. They also told me they got it to run without the new unit? So I drive 600 miles to pick up the car and I was asked if I had experienced any Tranny problems. They said the road test was fine on the phone!! PROBLEM: Drive is good. Runs fine.
Put this in reverse and this car will not budge. Trans seems to be locked in reverse (Fighting itself)and car will not move even with moderate acceleration. Its not burnt yet. Can these 2 problems be related or is this just a fluke coincedence. What is the cure (valve body?) (band adjustment) (new rebuild from Mercedes?) and what would you experienced people due other than put it up for salvage? Believe it or not this 218,000 mile car has not cost me a dime up until now. Its a daily driver! Thank you Benzmac for this site.
