Cool cold start missfire on 190e

Hi all,
My 1985 190e california version has had a cold start misfire for a short time now. on first start of the day it will run on 2 or 3 cylindars for about 10 to 15 seconds. and will repeat this if it sits for an hour or more. so I am assuming that the fuel pump check valve is bad and dumping all the fuel pressure while sitting. If this correct then I need to replace it, so my question is, it is located at the discharge side if the fuel pump? If so then it is part of the banjo bolt at the fuel line? And do I need to remove the pump from the car to replace it?
thanks for any help
Joe

IIRC it screws in to the end of the pump, not on the banjo side though, on the other side I believe. I'd also check the fuse in the OVP. You don't have an ABS light on, do you? Or no ABS on that one?

Gilly 2.3 yes and no abs on this one, so it is on the discharge side of the pump?

To me the discharge side (pressure side) makes sense, but could be the suction side. I'm sure you'll see it between the wire terminals.
I'd start it and see if the idle is affected by removing the connector to the idle control valve, power is supplied by the OVP, make sure you have power coming out of the OVP.

I have a similar problem but the missing occurs ONLY during the first start of the day and only for 3 or 4 seconds. Are these the early warning signals of check valve failure? I was planning on replacing the plugs/cap/rotor at the next oil change but I hadn't thought of fuel delivery as my problem...

this is now a consistant problem. it does it every cold start and now some times during warm restart. cap and rotor are in fair shape, idle changes when removing the opv(car stalls). it is now requiring more engine cranking before the start up when cold. I will replace the check valve this week and let you all know how it works.

Have you tried turning on the ignition a few times before actually cranking it? I would imagine that turning on the fuel pump a few times would build up pressure that might be lost due to a faulty check valve...
