tripometer reset

I just bought a 1988 300SE and I must be an idiot because I can't find where to reset the tripometer. On my previous 1989 260E it was right by the gauges. I tried the two knobs by the gauges (the light dimmer for gauges and the clock knobs) but I didn't want to break anything by pulling on them or pushing them too hard. Where is it? I feel so dumb right now. Thanks in advance.

On the W126 there should be two knobs on the cluster - one is for the clock and one is for the trip meter. I believe the one on the right is for the clock, but to be sure just twist it and see if the clock adjusts; the other one would then logically be the trip meter. You will have to push the knob for the trip meter; if yours won't push in then it may be jammed. Are the numbers advancing properly on both the odo and trip meter?

Thanks I will give it a try. I saw both knobs but the one on the left was for the instrument lights dimming and I didn't want to push it too hard before I found out. I hope I get the manual soon.

Left knob serves both purposes - turn it for dimmer, push to reset trip meter.
