190E Cooling fan options / Fire!

Is there options to the oem fans for this vehicle that will meet oem specifications or improve upon them? I have had nothing but trouble with the fan clutch and the aux. fans do not come on at all except whren the a/c is used. I have replaced the sensor and so on to no avail. Im not a fan of the viscous type of fan clutch as Ive had nothing but trouble with this one and the previous. Please let me know anything you might know about this.
I had tried at one point to wire the aux. fans to a dash mounted switch and I installed an inline fuse. The fuse blew soon after and after the second blew, the contact met and caused a small electrical fire at that point and completely melted the fuse holder.

What problem are you experiencing with the existing fan and viscous clutch?
