e320 fan regulator problems???

i have a 1996 e320 that's having a fan problem, i set the fan speeds up and down and nothing seems to happen, i can feel the heat but the fan motor is not engaging or blowing heat/air...regulator problem - fan motor problem or both??? i read something about a regulator for a 140 will fix it...

Very likely the regulator. You can try disconnecting the regulator and applying 12V directly to the fan motor to test it.

If the motor is bad, you'll have to find a good used one, or update all of the parts. If the regulator is bad (and you think your motor will keep functioning), you can adapt the a 140 regulator.

unfortunately you have the dreaded 96/97 210 body.you need to replace both the blower and the regulator.about $800 for parts.

As mattl pointed out there is a retrofit you can perfrom.

My reg gives me problems occasionally, not enough that I am willing to change it at this point.

I find turning the ingition off and on again results in the reg working again usually. At some point this will no longer work and I'll be replacing everything.

When the fault occurs my symptoms are the same as prostreethotrod's. I also get a screwy test mode (#9?) voltage reported by the Climate control display when this occurs.

I would rather r&r the ignition switch than do the fan/reg assembly.

How/what would one be testing the ignition for?

i tried the on/off with the key and that work, are these cars notorious for electrical problems??
