1989 300E voltage regulator
How can I test if I need an alternator or just change the voltage regulator?
Thanks, Fab |

DVOM set to ac...check for ripple. No more than 0.50vac.
Check charge levels..1500 rpm = No more that 14.6vdc. If in doubt buy a new reg'. .

Volt meter set to DC, connect to battery posts, start car, with all accessories shut off (incl climate control set to "0"), should read 13.8 to 14.2 volts.
