Dead fuel pump?
I just had my 87 420SEL towed back to my garage. I suspect one of the fuel pumps just died becausse I did not hear them start up when I turned the ignition. But there are two fuel pumps in the rear. Are they wired so that if one fails, they other does not get power? Or should I still have heard the good one powering up?

Check your relays before dropping the big bucks

fuel pumps
Hi I have found that the first symptom if one pump went out would be a loss of power, yet it should still run,for both to be out I would check fuses and the fuel pump relay.Joeym

Thanks guys!! I pulled the relay and put it back in again and the car started!
Now.......do I take my chances and leave it or consider that my relay is going bad and this will happen again and replace it? Can I test the relay to see if its on its last legs? Thanks |

I think they can be resoldered fairly easily, if you are good with that kind of thing. Saved many a $65 bill. If you have to drive it around, and the relay goes for good, jumping the terminals with a small wire will make the pump run continuously. Just a tip.
