Temperature Gauge seems low?

On my 560, the temp gauge never gets much above the line between 40 and 80. Is something wrong?
Thanks, and God Bless,
Dave.

your thermostat is probably broken and will not shut down water flow.

Is that a hard fix, or is it like most cars, being simple. Do I need to do it right away, and do I need to get a dealer part.
Thanks, and God Bless,
Dave.

It's pretty much like a lesser car, except the thermostat has a slit o-ring gasket seal around it. It probably does not come with the t-stat, so you'll need to order separately. (If someone replaced it already but left the gasket seal out, that would cause what you are seeing.) Also, pay attention to the t-stat orientation, as some have bleed holes to let the air out. If it's not oriented right, it's really hard to get the system filled back up.

You might want to check both the new and old ones in a pan of hot water with a thermometer to check that they open at the stated temperature. Even new ones are sometimes off.

Mine stays very low too when temperatures are below 60°, which is only in in the winter months around here. However, in the summer, it (gauge) soars to about 105°C- but my auxillary fan is on the fritz. It instantly blows fuses.

Well, what are the adverse consequences of not doing, right now? And, do the parts need to come from MB or Fastlane, or are local aftermarket, i.e. NAPA, ok?
Thanks, and God Bless,
Dave.

The same thing happened on my 420 SEL, replacing the thermostat this weekend...
