'91 300E Stuck In Park - Electron. or Mech.

Hello all,

I have a 1991 300E with an Automatic Trans., which is stuck in Park. I have read several posts which discuss stuck shifters in newer models, and seem to result from liquid getting into the gear selector. My vehicle has is a specific warning label on the gear selector stating “Brake Peddle must be depressed to shift from Park”, therefore I assume there is some sort of interlink between the brake peddle and the shift selector.

QUESTION:

If I am correct about the existence of an interlock, is it mechanical via a cable, or electrical via some sort of release solenoid? If I am wrong on all accounts, and the shift selector is electronic, I would appreciate being put straight on that as well. Any direction would be helpful.

Thanks for your time!

That model has a cable from brake pedal to the shifter..

Can be adjusted after removing the wood trim around the shifter.

Talking Many Thanks M.b.doc!

Thanks M.B. DOC for the quick reply, and the quick simple fix! I didn't wish to start tearing into things without some conformation. My manuals do not show any detail for the shift assembly or trans. Thanks again!
